how to improve your health with self-awarenessHealth is your greatest wealth and yet is something which most people do not pay enough attention to until they experience a problem. It is one area of life where prevention is always better than cure. In order to prevent serious issues from arising, self-awareness is required. You can be more self-aware, and improve your health, by consistently monitoring your physical and mental feelings. Knowing how you feel and how that relates to your health allows you to identify when problems are at an early stage. Then you can act swiftly to prevent it from developing and thus improve your health before you have to experience pain.

As I write, I am waiting for orthotics to arrive. Over the past couple of months, I have had a few days where I was unable to walk and I eventually made an appointment to see an osteopath. Thankfully, the osteopath was able to identify the problem and I will soon have specially made orthotics which will solve the problem. However, had I been more self-aware and monitored my health more proactively, I would have noticed far earlier that there were problems e.g. I love walking but for the past year the distance which I can walk has been getting progressively shorter. Also, I have been getting shin splints and calf strains. I now realise that if you want to improve your health, you need to pay attention to, and act upon these small signs at the earliest opportunity.

6 Questions to improve your health

If you want to improve your health, you need to be aware of the things which fill you with energy and make you stronger. You also need to be aware of the things which rob you of energy and make you weaker. Obviously, you need to spend more time on the energising activities and less time on the de-energising activities. The following questions will help you to identify the appropriate activities:

  1. What makes you feel really good?
  2. What feelings and sensations do you experience when you feel good?
  3. What are the signs that you are pushing yourself too hard?
  4. Which activities do you feel are good for you?
  5. Which activities make you feel great?
  6. Which activities are having a negative impact on your health?

To improve your health, you need to be curious, aware and proactive. Take notice of how you are feeling and how your body and mind react to the demands which you place upon them. You may need to do some research (ask experts rather than conduct internet searches) and you may have to experiment to find the best approaches for you, but when you are more self-aware and you pay attention to your body and mind, you will swiftly improve your health. Ask yourself the six questions above, on a regular basis; act on your responses and you will soon improve your health to the desired standard.
